After two hours of shopping adventure gear at REI, my son and I needed a reality check. So, we drove up the hill to St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Ever visit a cathedral? I recommend it. Slip in quietly, stand in awe, settle in a pew, and commune with God. Our visit was topped off by an organ concert. (He was practicing, leaning into his work, eyes closed, as if in ecstasy.)
Slipping out some time later, we discovered these words carved in stone near the side door:
“The whole earth is the tomb of heroic men, and their story is not graven only on stone over their clay, but abides everywhere without visible symbol woven into the stuff of other men’s lives.”
Never miss an opportunity to taste transcendence. We don’t get enough of it.
