The dripping shower head.
If you’re an arborist you note the colors and placement of flowers outside the window.
If you’re an artist you notice the paintings.
If you’re a scrabble player you notice the dictionary on the shelf.
If you’re athletic you notice the glove and cleats.
If you’re a reader you’re scanning the library.
If you’re hungry, you drift toward the basket of cookies by the door.
If you’re Jesus Christ, you see the person in the room. A person you created with great care. A person for whom you selected gifts, abilities, character qualities, opportunities, and a lifetime of circumstances to shape, refine, and strengthen them. A person for whom you died so that their eternal future can unfold before them in a place of beauty, goodness, and great joy.
How clearly we see the things we’re trained to notice is a reminder of how clearly Jesus Christ sees who we are and who we will become. His love makes this possible, and our humility to accept His forgiveness is what opens the door. After that, we get to see what He sees, invest in the things that matter to Him, and become the kind of person He would be if He were in our shoes.
It all begins with what we choose to focus on.
