Seeking the Kingdom

Seeking the Kingdom is like moving to a new area. It’s acclimating to a new culture, learning to appreciate a new type of beauty, discovering new routes, understanding new rhythms for where, when, and how to shop, adapting to new flavors of etiquette, and planting beauty where weeds long held sway.

Kingdom seekers see the beauty of the skyline at sunset as a creative gesture. They experience kindness from strangers as an expression of the second greatest commandment. They notice the image of God in their fellow commuters when everyone squeezes aside so you can reach the door as the bus approaches your exit.

To seek the Kingdom is to see others as neighbors. Not in the abstract or theoretical sense, but in the subway, crosswalk, and ‘hunting a parking spot’ dance. It’s calling after the commuter who just dropped his wallet, shoveling out the elderly neighbor’s car before doing your own, and remembering names, even if it’s not easy to pronounce them. Everyone is honored to be known.

The best way to seek the Kingdom of God on Earth is to live as though you’re already there.
